They'll continue to get the same recognition. Duffing my message-board geek propeller beanie for the moment and donning my CEO's fedora, there are two kinds of users I prize very highly: 1. Those who reach into their pockets and put money in the company's coffers. 2. Those who contribute the kind of content this site should be known for, making it more valuable to all of us collectively, and making advertisers more inclined to reach into their pockets. Rewarding the former is easy: Recognition on the homepage, the availability of useful features, and no ads. Rewarding the latter is more difficult but no less important. Free members are contributing about 2% of the relevant content on the site right now, which is nothing to sneeze at and should be rewarded and further encouraged. Perhaps an incentive I can offer them is a discount on a subscription...
