OT >> Do you get a sense that STX will succeed in making significant inroads in small factor HDDs against the Japanese,

Sam,

The japanese don't stand a chance. Hitachi bought IBM's drive ops. The micro drive, which came in the deal was invented approx 5 years ago. Hitachi still has not made any improvements beyond what they got from IBM. Meanwhile, Seagate came out of nowhere, and is now selling 1" drives with 20% more capacity. And cannot keep up with demand. Seagate made $130m profit. Hitachi made $48m loss. They both sell the same range of products.

And then mean-mean-while, WD came out of farther nowhere and is making 6GB 1" drives. And Hitachi still hasn't managed to make them.

That's just addressing other parts of the market. Flash has zero chance in movie cameras and the like. (for a few years).
