I'm a big fan of LED technology. In a couple years, I'll be putting them in places where I currently have compact florescent lights, getting better color and no mercury plus more efficient, too. Red/Green lights are a great candidate because they can cause a traffic problem if they burn out, so to avoid that, crews run around changing them early. LEDs would last about 10x longer and so save via staff reduction, plus there would be energy savings, too. And you could do things with the LEDs to help color blind folks (with horizontally mounted lights) like have the bright O show up on the green light and a bright X show up on the red light. Maybe I should patent that...
