JF, I think that in the old days, politicians cared more about their constituents. Reading history, watching old movies, and reading literature, I don't get that impression. Politicians have been called selfish and crooked since the birth of America. The only change I've noticed over my years is how the art of politics has been boiled down to an empirical science. For example, look at the widespread dependence on polls, as if the heart of a nation can be measured in terms of statistics. Tenchusatsu
