I haven't seen any recent figures. But as of the late 1980's, geriatrics hasn't gone a long way from the early early 1900's. The percentages were about the same.

Now my family has been relatively longed lived, everybody that isn't senile by their early 60's tends to stick around to their 80's or 90's. These days, they tend to be pretty active until the last couple of months where they are bed ridden. Much of the increase in life expectancy in most of the population has to do with the reduction in infant mortality and the ability to rescue people who might have otherwise died due to accindent or illness.

Now personally, I plan to live forever. Or die trying...
