Well I think that's just it. Since we're a representative democracy anyway, the vast majority of people don't really do politics anyway (ok, they argue with each other but mostly about whose dog pooed in their yard).

The issues are complicated and the factual information is hard to come by. The 'News' gives us some facts but degenerates into opinion almost immediately thereby becoming totally worthless.

If everyone understood, for example, that Republicans are actually trying to KILL SS and not reform it, the debate about privatization would be very different. If it were clear that there are 14 military bases being built (?) and a 3,000 person embassy being built (?) then the debate about US Troops leaving Iraq would also be very different.

Heck, if it had been clear that there was no evidence of any connection between SH and AQ and that the argument for WMDs was very shabby, we wouldn't have gone to war.

We lack the facts.
