I don't know if the Hispanic/Latin vote is a single block. It would seem that they come from a variety of countries and have a variety of experiences. If I remember correctly, the number of Protestants is decreasing and caucasians are set to be a minority in the US in less than 50 years.

IMO, the Red Staters are still holding on to the racism, bigotry and fear from the 50s. They're incredibly disappointed that they have to work in order to get and stay ahead instead of having it be their birthright. They're still the followers of Thurmond and Helms and David Duke, they just can't say things outloud any longer.

The Dems knew they had lost the south with the Civil Rights Movement. It took an entire generation but the Republicans finally found a way to mask ugly thoughts in the guise of fake christianity and fake conservatism.
