Don't they put the nasty stinkum in natural gas in Georgia?

Evidently not. That's our invention. Fortunately, the Georgian President is on the Democratic side.

A while back you and I were talking about oversubscription of tsunami relief charities. A friend of mine made a contribution to Save the Children for that purpose and came to be talking to them on the phone about it. What happened was that she, as is her custom, set up the transfer of several appreciated stocks to several charities but one of them was lost by the broker and didn't get effected before the end of the tax year. So she thought she'd donate it for tsunami relief since Bush had extended the tax year for that purpose. But there was a caveat on that extension that it only applied to case donations for some reason and her stock donation to Save the Children was not eligible. Which is a long explanation of how she came to be talking to them on the phone.

The point of this is that, when it became clear that she couldn't take the deduction on last year's taxes, she mentioned to the Save the Children rep that it no longer mattered to her that it be directed to tsunami relief. Well, they were beside themselves with delight telling her how oversubscribed they were and much more they needed the money elsewhere a how much they appreciated the flexibility she gave them. FWIW.
