"I was in favor of it too."

Anyone with half a brain was... you don't wound a bear and then leave him alive in the woods.

"However, the rationale for stopping was logical,"

Pssshaw! (It tarnished the effort, by making it look like the only motivation was to resuce the bacon of the Kuwaiti royal family....)

"and we'll never know what kind of consequences we would have faced had we gone in."

You can never know about a road untaken... but the best available intelligence suggests that Saddam was only a day or so from falling. He himself believed that it was the end, and was preparing to flee Baghdad. The Shia and Kurds were prepared to uprise... but unfortunately the President lied to them, then failed to support them... and they were slaughtered.

Millions of lives could have been saved (I'm including all of the Iraqis, children and otherwise, who later died in Iraq under the UN sanctions, all the people Saddam killed reasserting his power, and all of the people killed in this LATEST war... which would have been totally unnecessary if Bush I & Powell hadn't stopped short of Baghdad during Desert Storm... and don't forget the 1/2 Trillion dollar or more cost to the taxpayers of this latest go-round. All unnecessary.)
