Sorry, Chris, but collection of benefits and being counted as unemployed have nothing to do with one another. The unemployment rate is based on the "current population survey", which asks people whether they worked during the month, not whether they collected unemployment benefits.

BTW, the CPS also shows that the US has added 2.5 million people to the employment rolls since Bush took office and 1.8 million in the last year.

Just thought you'd want to know. Possibly faulty assumption, I know, BWTH.
