If USSR had fallen as a result of a conflict you'd not here today because it had been result of a nuclear war. USSR Empire military might was no longer afordable and fell. Had USSR diverted the science, engineering and the money to other purposes, refoming their system, it had a chance of transforming itself. But thay had meant dismamntlinh their 'defesne' establishment. Just for comparison sake: 63% of all scientists and engineers IN THE US, were involved directly or indirectly in defense. Hey, Eisenhower didn;t call it military-industrial complex for nothing. It wasn't possible. As it isn't in the case of the US to dismatled the FAT cat bureaucracy. The military coup de grace will be non-standard, unconventional military coup de grace. You can't beat them conventionaly, today.
