Raymond, I just quoted the article, which actually came out Feb 2. I wrote up a commentary when ProMed mentioned avian cholera (when promed says cholera, I think avian flu).

Until the birds are tested, its not going to be clear what killed them, but Vancouver is pretty close to Salem, as the crow (or Canada goose) flies. Vancouver had a significant outbreak of H7N3 beginning almost exact 1 year ago. Influenza's pretty seasonal, so if there was outbreak last Feb a good time to look for one this year would be Feb. Vancouver was literally chasing the virus, doing too little too late, so another outbreak in Vancouver would not be a surprise.

Thailand did have pigeons falling out of the sky and in the past few weeks they have many H5N1 positive birds in many species, including pigeons. The location of the three sites i OR sounded like an infectious disease and at this time of the year in the northwest US, bird flu is a consideration.
