He did a logical extension of the comparison fallacy the article was doing. It was to show just how bad the comparison was.

LOL. The comparison wasn't bad until he extended it out of proportion to make it bad.

Why did he feel compelled to do that? That is the question. Was it illogic? Bias? Cognitive dissonance? Was it a chip on his shoulder? Was it being intentionally manipulative? Was it that he had no legitimate counter-argument so he pathetically distorted the argument and attacked that? We'd need a shrink to figure that out. Whatever it is, there's a lot of it going around. Sad thing, that.

Bill, think about the consequences of this type of response. It feeds polarization. If folks cannot make moderate or nuanced statements without other folks instinctively "extending" them so they can be ridiculed, what hope is there for reasoned discourse?
