G7:BOJ Fukui: Will Keep Easy Policy To Fight Deflation

LONDON (Dow Jones)--Bank of Japan Governor Toshihiko Fukui said Saturday that he told his counterparts from the Group of Seven leading industrialized nations the central bank will keep its ultra-easy monetary policy in place in order to overcome deflation and ensure economic growth.

"We will continue our efforts to fight deflation, and we will uphold our current quantitative easing framework," Fukui said, speaking after G7 finance ministers and central bank governors met here Friday and Saturday.

Under the quantitative easing policy, the BOJ guides financial institutions' current account deposits at the central bank to a range of Y30 trillion-Y35 trillion. The bank has said it will keep this policy in place until growth in Japan's core consumer prices rises above zero.
