when you live in the ME it is very possible that the media coverage of what takes place in Israel is somewhat limited.

This may be true for the non-English speaking population (the locals). Westerners in the Middle East watch the same CNN, BBC, Fox, etc. that anyone else does, and get the same news.

mindmeld's claim that in the past Israel has pulled out of occupied territories and allowed self determination for the residents in those territories is ridiculous. The West Bank and Gaza have been occupied in some form or other by Israel since the 1967 war (when they captured the land). In the past year or so Sharon has proposed withdrawing from Gaza (although they have not done so yet), and it is a historic proposal. It would be the first time since 1967 that Israel has not occupied Gaza.
