I saw it and thought it was pretty good. I saw Million $ Baby this afternoon and liked it until the boxing ended ... everything after that was kind of weak, imo. Hillary Swank was really good in it.

I watched half some of which I shared with you and then yesterday I finished it. Very powerful.

He is an elder now and has a lot of remorse for the active role he played in the tenure of his office with the government. Evidently Kennedy was a negotiater and Johnson was a hawk. Kennedy took advise and avoided a war that would have been nuclear... Johnson on the other hand was more aggressive. It is worth viewing. The saddest.. the very saddest... When McNamara met with the leaders of Vietnam who framed the war in 1995 he learned that it all could have been avoided. That they were not going Communist but they were fighting for their independence and thought that we were just going to be imperialistic like France had been. They said they had 100 years of antagonism with China and would not have let them take over.

So 58.000 men who are now gone could have been saved if there had been negotiating.. talks.. COMMUNICATION and treaties.
In fact the Tonkin Gulf thing was all cooked up. CONTRIVED again to get us ready for war.

He stopped talking about Vietnam when the questions got tough. He filled up and almost cried a few times and I with him.
