I've posted a couple of article about Howard Dean getting the Chairmanship of the Dem party; no response. I sincerely wonder if the Liberals even care a whit's ass about the Democratic party. To be honest, I am not heartened by Dean getting the post if for no other reason than the situation looks so hopeless. Not a good attitude but it comes from seeing clearly how well the right has boxed liberals into a corner. The Clintons were sounding the alarm back in the 90s but I thought they were paranoid. Amazingly, the right has turned the principles of liberalism into something ugly...something to disparage. Many of these principles are the same ones on which this nation was founded. And yet, in 2005, they stand discredited and considered unAmerican. Even when the right missteps, they manage to turn it into silk. Look at Bush's NG service. We all know CBS was right.......that Bush screwed around with his service but instead of hurting Bush, one of the strongest voices for liberal views has been silenced. And Bush came out smelling like a rose. The fact that the vile demogoguery pouring out of the mouths of the likes of O'Reilly and Coulter is readily accepted by so many Americans is extremely disheartening. Its not about partisan politics. Its something much deeper than that. Some of the darkest of us are on top. One listen to Coulter and O'Reilly is to know that they are evil people in every sense of the word. O'Reilly telling the man whose father died in 9/11 to shut up repeatedly because he is against the war in Iraq and then kicking him off the set when the guy tried to explain his position is typical of these people. Meanwhile, hypocritical O'Reilly is sexually hitting on the women in his office. And then there is Coulter telling a Canadian that there can be no dissent in the US over the war in Iraq. That you are either for she and the president, or against them. In other words, Ms. Coulter does not believe in the very basic tenets of democracy. And she doesn't think much of Canada remaining an independent nation as she suggests we roll over and crush them. These are the people who speak for the right off the record. They do not believe in free speech but rather in American imperialism and supremacy. If if this is where they are at, what do you think the beliefs of Bush et al are? And if that's how far things have gone, then we are in very serious and very deep waters. The growing frankness of the right in public settings suggests things are way over on their side of the board. And I don't see how we can turn them back. They are so adept at using the media to their advantage much like Joe McCarthy, and when they are not, the media is so afraid of them they remain silent. They have even managed to invalidate the unfriendly foreign press and the countries we once considered our strongest allies. We are beyond the point of talking or trying to find a middle ground with these people, but frankly, I don't know what the next step should be. ted
