Tom, You use the US 5 letter symbols and the orders are routed directly to Canada. If you have Canada Stockwatch you can see your bid or ask appear - and your trade go through via watching the trades for Canacord. The problem is to find the bid ask. If you call you can get the bid ask in us funds.

If you use a lightly traded stock it is possible that the symbol conversion is not in place. Perhaps on your first trade with a stock you could check the validity of the symbol. The equivalent symbol can come from Yahoo Symbol look up.
