a piece in Barron's mention democrat position. raised taxes on wealthy enough to pay for soc sec. cancel bush tax cuts and also on capital gains.. and raise the top bracket back to the Clinton area.

I'm starting to think this whole Social Security campaign by Bush is going to backfire. Now that he has raised the issue about the impending crisis, I suspect it will be "solved" by raising the income cap for the SS tax.

I remain personally conflicted about the whole issue. I love having my own private account thanks to my state opting out of SS. But my father lost a bunch of his retirement savings thanks to feeble-mindedness in his old age, and SS helped bail him out.

I see that some prominent Republicans would rather work on tax reform than mess with SS.
