Of course, if that's all the debt relief entails. I responded under the impression that new funds were being advanced by the IMF to the poor nations. Clearly, if debt relief simply entails writing off existing loans, it doesn't make sense, as you say, that gold has to be sold by the IMF.

Unless, of course, the banks that are writing off the debt are short of gold and this is an "innocent" way for them to obtain it?
