Jay, People are now referring to the US as one giant carry trade, or hedge fund. Based on what I know about Canada, the UK and Australia, in terms of using equity in one's home to buy more real estate or using margin in one's brokerage account, I do not see how we can easily restrict this definition to the US. Much of the global economy is a hedge fund. This was made possible by coming off the gold standard (although if one were allowed to leverage gold 10:1 or more, the same effect could be achieved). So, on a global basis, if you agree with me, what have we created? D
