That's a ridiculous analysis. If SS had been privatized in 1969, that would have meant investing a percent of each person's income in to the stock and bond markets each year starting in 1969. The article assumes investments would only be made at market peaks, that privatized accounts would be subject to current taxation instead of deferred like IRA's, etc.

As it happens, I've been investing a percentage of my income in the stock market (mostly) since the mid-1970's and now at age 52 my balance is in the 7 digits.
