I understood that Dobson's position was available from his magazine or newsletter and also that his assistant had been interviewed by the Times

The NYT wrote an article at the time that was considered a smear by the Blogs. They twisted it that Dobson had criticized spongepants and he hadn't. He had criticized the organization that was pushing the spot. It came out that they went off notes of someone they called. Dobson then made clear what he had said in a release on his website.

The point is that the NYT and others blew Dobson's remarks out of context on much less info than we now have on Eason. Malkin's telephone interview Gergen today confirms that three of the MSM, including the WaPo called him last week and confirmed what the blogs have said he said. They also had the same quotes on Eason from Barney Franks and Senator Dodd. They had more info with better sourcing last week on Eason than they had when they smeared Dobson and they spiked it.

As I said from the start, the real story to me is the story of how the MSM handled it.
