Definitely, not Amtrak........typical of a president weaned on oil. Willing to spend billions on Iraq but not millions on passenger rail service.

I NEED Amtrak. It's a good service, and so useful and just very good for the environment.

It's tough for me to get down to NYC without it.


Where it provides regular and frequently repeated service......Montreal/NY, Boston/DC, LA/SD, Vancouver/Portland its fairly good service. Everywhere else, the service is not so good but getting better. As it increases its short haul routes, service has improved.

Besides, Amtrak is critical in the Boston/DC and LA/SD corridors. They carry too many passengers and their absence would be greatly missed.

It seems Americans can accept subsidizing cars and planes but they get all niggardly when it comes to trains.
