It's Very Warm in NZ. Auckland Was Tropical and Even

here in Wellington they have had hot sunny weather which is unusual for a city with an S.F. climate. The housing market apparently had started to come off a bit last year with all the rate hikes, but after the pause, the consumer confidence about buying a house has come back up again. And yesterday the RBA in Canberra (across the Tasman) sounded pretty hawkish again after a similar pause. The obituary on NZ and AUS real estate bubbles was premature.

My log meter, which involves checking the size of lumber piles in the Port of Wellington, suggests there is good flow down there.

Finally, the NZ rugby team did very well in The Sevens tournament over the weekend. Historically, there has been a slight--but consistent--correlation between consumer confidence and the performance of the rugby team.

All in all, the New Zealanders look happy, and busy.

Best,

LP
