Exactly. And when I was involved in teaching.. I clarify this as I do not know where it is fact today but most of these girls never had a husband so the child or children were reared in a single parent family. In those days Black men were not settling down and becoming parents, just fathers.

In St Thomas when I lived there the Black Natives had what they called outside babies.. They not only knew who they were but they supported them. So it was not uncommon to hear a Black neighbor say, I have a wife and three children and four outside babies..

It was accepted. The Father's fulfilled their financial duties and things were just that way.
