>>>I used to think that too and sometimes they work out that way. However, the term "whipsaw" was invented to take advantage of those who bought into that theory which included me at one time.>>>

dabum, amen! Thanks for bringing that to my attention. I can recall your advice to wait for that beakout to be confirmed by the second advance before buying a long position...however you may have been practicing a longer term trade with that rule.

>>>Those who move the market are aware of the technicals. All of the brokerage houses and financial institutions have technical analysts. They know where you and I are motivated to respond. They will push the price one way to attract us and then sell into that strength.

I don't buy those breakouts anymore. I wait for the pull back after it has been established that the new trading range will hold. It's a higher probability trade with less risk involved.<<<

This "manipulation" absolutely confounds me...I fail to comprehend how these manuevers can be executed with any degree of success, without several of the "big ones" acting in collusion with each other....I've lamented this on this board before and have yet to read a rational description of how it can be practiced with any degree of confidence, nor without a great degree of risk on their part.

Your change in TA strategy illustrates how difficult it would be to consistently predict how us naive suckers are going to react to their carefully orchestrated moves...we are modifying our strategies over time to cope with many adverse outcomes which in many cases are caused by such unethical manuevers of the "big guys". And unless they are acting in concert with each other, how do they cope with some of them changing their manuevers to follow our changes, while others keep practicing what soon becomes an obsolete method.

>>>or buying off of the 20 day moving average,<<<

Would you clarify this tactic? I can't seem to understand how it's carried out, especially on your PTEN chart accompanying your post.

Many thanks, dabum
