It has the same sort of visceral response as "Black Power" does. You're right that we should not seek out or otherwise foster terms that divide. Feminism is simply a Civil Rights issue that affects half the population.

What do I think?

I was in college when feminism became the rage. In the time I was there, I went from expecting to get married (getting my Mrs. degree, they called it) to watching women burn their bras. The change was rapid and dramatic. I am one of those people who believe that all the women jumping into the work force raised housing prices so that all of a sudden everyone HAD to work to pay a mortgage. The cost of living seemed to go up dramatically.

I have nothing against women having equal opportunities, being treated like intelligent human beings, and especially with men sharing housework and child rearing duties. Those are important accomplishments of the feminist movement. But the truth of the matter as I see it is that babies and small children develop much, much better if one parent is with them almost all of the time. I am totally opposed to daycare. So the young women who are now are taking a break from the workforce while their children are small are making a really good decision, I think. Of course, the fathers could stay home with the children instead. But someone should.
