That's one of the miracles of what's called a "pancake collapse". Anyway, one is not supposed to ask such questions.

Actually I saw a program about the controlled demolition of all the old hotels at Las vegas on Discovery TV a few nights ago where the principle stars were Mark Loisseau and his sister. Fascinating.

From my little knowledge of the subject, I do not believe that in a standard implosion it is necessary to remove the windows first. As far as I can work out, there seems to be very little general blast because the holes for the explosives in the concrete columns are covered in a blanket of some sort prior to detonation and, as you know, the building being demolished collapses from the bottom up. As far as I am concerned, however, what happened at WTC1 and 2 was not a standard demolition in any shape or form. With the WTC, buildings 1 and 2 were literally pulverized and from the top down.

BTW, as far as I know, Seymour Hersh the investigative journalist has nothing to do with Hearst.
