Well, I personally also go for large deductibles. To me insurance is just that INSURANCE, meaning that it should be designed to cover those costs that I could not or could not easily absorb myself. Thus, I usually select the largest deductible available. As to the TAXPAYERS paying for insurance (yes we DO PAY FOR IT) I think it important to have the copay high enough to keep people from abusing the program. For instance, where my wife works they USED to have a $5 co pay on doctors visits, well, those POOR people as you call them would run to the doctor with the SNIFFLES. The cost was ENORMOUS, so they raised the co pay to $20.
Finally, you need to realize that society OWES YOU very little. Sadly, some do gooders think we owe cradle to grave security, sorry not in this world and in this country. We owe you sufficient for you to HELP YOURSELF to pull yourself up by your bootstraps and if a calamity of misfortune strikes you to protect you from being helpless. Thats about it. jdn
