I have no problems with polygamous marriages as a concept. There are people who engage in these marriages who give fair accounts of the benefits. Women don't always like to be tied down to a particular role in relationships and with polygamy they often are able to pick their niche and share the load. Some have a need for intimacy in sister hood. We only hear about abuses and neglects in the news media but as an institution I see nothing particularly wrong with it. In fact, speaking from a traditional man's perspective all I can say is yeeee'aaaah buddy to the ones who work it out, I don't see how I ever could though.

Practically speaking we are now at 117 boy births to 100 girl births in much of the world thanks to western culture's attempt to feminise the planet. So I doubt that polygamy will be much of a problem when we have marauding bands of young men who will never even have one date in their life time. With the current statistical trend we are looking at 1 billion of these guys in a couple of generations... I will be gone, God willing.

I am trying to set aside the moral question to discuss what marriage actually is as traditionally understood. If you understand that, then the only conclusion is that the term "marriage" and the term "gay marriage" are incompatible concepts. If people want their relationships sanctioned legally as something other than a traditional marriage use a different term, like 'Civil Union'.
