Have to agree with you, the US is far from a free market in medical services. The licensing by states is an automatic intrusion into the free market and thats one of the smallest intrusions considering the lobby money poured into elections by pharma companies and medical associations. State medical boards go to great lengths to prosecute practitioners that don't follow the decree of medical associations, thereby eliminating competition and limiting the possibility of breakthroughs and better treatments. And those state boards don't care if the practitioners are getter great results in their patients or not; they are just out for scalps.
