Wrong again. A republic can be a democracy. The US is both a democracy and a republic.

Sometimes the term "democracy" is used only to refer to countries where direct democracy is the primary method or at least a significant method of political decision making. That was the original way the term was used. However that isn't the only definition of, or way to use, the term democracy, so using the term to describe the US is not incorrect, in fact most people now use the term to refer to systems where the people elect political representatives in addition to direct democracy. People who want to be more specific will often use terms like "a democratic republic".

The terms socialist and democracy are independent of each other. Socialism denotes the type of economy; democracy the type of politics.

True.

France is a capitalist country with socialist overtones.....its more capitalist, then socialist.

I lean towards agreeing with that statement, even though terms like "more capitalist than socialist" are hard to nail down to a specific meaning. There are so many ways you could measure such a scale of capitalist to socialist.

In the meantime, I want our soldiers home!

Well, in what hypothetical case would you support sending American soldiers abroad?
