CEOs of ito (int terror org). The 9/11 guys fit this model too. When potential professional types lose all hope you get the rev leadership. And since leaders are smart they look for smarter recruits so they can havae more success. It follows. In Pal the use of terror came from practical considerations by leadership. And they made use of the lumpenproetariat as human cannon fodder. Hamas and the others may fall somewhere in between models perhaps. Just speculation here. I havent read the book and just dont have the time to do so now.
