re: What would you say caused the students to go nuts during the Vietnam War.............the 1968 Chicago riots, the shootings of students or the lies by Johnson? Was there a particular thing that set them off?

Skin in the game; the draft. You knew that if you didn't find a way to avoid the draft, it was a 100% certainty. And almost as certain that in 6-8 months you were going to find yourself with a gun in a God forsaken rice paddy in Vietnam shooting strangers and being shot at. With a very good chance of coming back in a body bag or as a cripple, and almost certain to come back at least a little nuts. It was a real war, with reporters on the front lines. You saw film of people dying every night on the TV news, you saw the caskets coming home. It was a huge part of your life, and it was the next stage of your life.

How would you feel if you knew, with almost 100% certainty, that within 6-8 months of graduating from college (or high school if you didn't go to college) you would be in Iraq, dodging suicide bombers? No matter how much you hated the war. No choice, whatsoever.
