Freidman still can't write an article without taking a swipe at the Bush administration. In this case Donald Rumsfeld.

The simple fact is the Democrats he lists have been woefully inept at convincing others in their party of the value of Democracy taking hold in the middle east, and the potential transformational consequences of those elections.

Why have they been so inept? Simple, Democrats lack vision. They see the world through shaded half empty glasses where despair and negativism dominate their mental models.

If Scoop Jackson came back and saw what his party was like today, what would he say!

I have posted some pretty serious stuff about the takeover of the Dem party by the hard left, but I think it's true. The internet has fired up and fueled up these people, and their influence is going to stay strong. Especially with Howard Dean in charge. I think it is so bad that Howie will find himself trying to keep the party center-left.

Columns like this from Friedman show just how far they have gone. Here he is trying to talk sense to them.

I liked Barnett's analysis in the last post I put up from him. Iran is an authoritarian government, and can be changed by outside pressure. North Korea is a totalitarian government and cannot. A democratic Iraq that is not run by the Mullahs would work a major change in Iran. The Iranians constantly visit Iraq for religious reasons, and can see by that experience and by watching Iraq TV how much better off they are.
