I think people become liberal because they have more empathy. And I flatly deny the two go together in any way! Anybody can pull on his or her parents lib or con costume and all of the usual frills and trimmings with that. Then you have some people doing their own thinking and adapting an optimized set of values more fit to their perception of the real world as opposed to the wishful thinking and/or indoctrination of their liberal or other roots. For me it was easy, my parents as well as my grandparents on both sides and everybody else of my near family are or were all very warm and emphatic people well capable of compassion where appropriate. Guess what, all of same were or are conservatives! Real ones with no neo- or other prefixes. Taro
