Let me put it this way: The bad guy pulls a gun on me and from all I can see is going to use it. I have a gun in my hand and you bet, I shoot first to save my life.
In this case IMO empathy and/or compassion with his case comes a very last second thought indeed.
I like most of those European "liberals" (by definition I guess) are strictly against capital punishment. The difference being that this is premeditated killing of another human being albeit with the law in your hand. It still is premeditated killing, period!

Does that make me a liberal? Not hardly.
I was born being a compassionate and very forgiving person.
Life really is too precious and worth being lived to have time to hate.
I never had any left sympathies whatsoever.
Also fully understand that this does not fit your somewhat compartmentalized thinking if I may make that comment.
