Well, reading The Lovely Bones would certainly make some of them less likely to go off with someone they didn't know very well. I think that is an important message for teenagers, who of course consider themselves immortal. And its ideas of sex and love are really spiritual and very pretty.

My own daughter couldn't really stand to read it, and she is 21 now. But she can't handle depressing movies, either, and has very broad ideas of what depressing is. She was very disturbed by the Irish movie In America as well, which I didn't find depressing at all.
