You have to realize where John is coming from. As long as I've know him (probably 8 years or more) he's been retired. He's paid in enough Social Security (40 quarters) to get it..and while the "pay in" was low. Now in his mid 50's...in another 7 to 10 years he'll start to collect. In 2042 he'll be in his 90's and likely won't care anyway...meanwhile he'll have collected much more than he paid in.

You see, it's a successful system! Life is good!
