"but I was trying to determine what was the thing that caused the 1960s peace movement to erupt into something that forced the leaders of that time to pay attention to what the people wanted."

Simple. It was dragging on too long and we weren't getting anywhere. The protests didn't do it. The bringing of the war to the dinner table every night didn't do it. The stars in the windows for those killed over there didn't do it. It was the going nowhere, and no sign that it would ever be over that did it. When Walter Cronkite started being critical of the war was the sign that things had gone on too long. It wasn't the youth that turned it, although they thought they did. It was mainstream opinion. And that was because it managed to sink in that we were bogged down and couldn't get out. The whole concept of firebases showed that the military knew it too.

And no, I didn't miss that about the prepping. There are those that think they have gained control and want to reshape the country in their own mold. There are always groups that want to do that. This is closely related to the U of Col. student you talk about. You can't trade freedom for security, although there are always those who are willing to do that. It was such an attempted trade that brought the Nazis to power. They were concerned with communists and terrorists, we are concerned with Islamics and terrorists. The dress and accents are different, but the concept is the same.

Sorry if you feel I am putting you down or playing generation games. I am not. God knows I don't think people my age are any special founts of wisdom, they are the ones most responsible for voting Dubya in. I am glad you are more aware than the impression I got. I do apologize.

Returning to the prepping, what about the overt media manipulation that the Administration is doing? Not only did they pay those pundits to pontificate on cue, they apparently are dealing with pseudo-journalists who even use fake names. If atro-turfing wasn't bad enough...

And no, I don't really care that the guy was also running a number of gay porn sites. The real story is that the Administration is actively faking the news. Not only through spin, but faking the ones reporting the spin. I guess the next step is to resurrect Max Headroom and pretend he is a real reporter too...
