well, on the OS side they've got Rob Pike and that Bosworth guy who was the CTO of BEA. Then they have the 2 firefox guys to do the browser. So they are having trouble getting this caliber of employees? well, yeah.

I think this needs to be viewed in some context though, because in the late 90s you really couldn't even THINK about getting guys like this on staff at a big company which is what goog is now. They were all starting their own companies or day trading or whatever. Goog has the same level of people available to it today that msft had in their early days, circa 88-92 or so, I would say. Thats not a bad place to be. I hire a lot and I know that the job market for tech professionals is still quite weak. Esp middle management. The problem is goog wants to staff the whole company with stars.
