I look at Masada as an historical episode. Putting it into context today, one might want to look at Nazi Germany where totalitarian control was so great that few were able to mount resistance to their slaughter. If the Jewish people knew the fate awaiting them at the hands of the nazis, and knew that world would stand idly by, what might they have done then? Maybe the Kool Aid ala Jim Jones? Would you rather give your kids a glass of Kool Aid and have then drift off in a peaceful death or would you rather have them separatd from parents, raped, tortured and gassed in a concentration camp. Of course the Jews didnt know for sure what their fate was to be. They did not know the world would stand idly by. So they had some hope left, i guess. In Masada, as i understand it, there was no hope. Ask your friends which end they would choose for their kids. Which end is more humane? These are questions i hope we never have to answer again. But you remain fixated on this because its a way to attack the Jewish People and particularly those who reside in Israel.
I am no zionist by the way and i have not thought about Masada much at all. In judging that event, i just try to put myself in the place of those who were there. It means little to me that they were Jewish. I am sure that there are similar cases where others were faced with similar situations. You focus on this case because of your prejudices and your anti-zionist predilictions. That is clear to me.
