Sanctions against Saudi Arabia is not possible in the short term, I agree. But we should certainly pressure them diplomatically.

Why do I think Iran is more of a hard case? Because they are actively pursuing nukes and they actively support terrorism.

Pakistan is not a hardcase, because they have a leader who is friendly to the U.S. and has been a strong ally in the war on terror. We can pressure him diplomatically and he has a Western education and Western tendencies.

As far as invading SA, that would be silly. There is a ton of diplomatic leverage we can apply to them instead. Their recently announce elections, the cleaning up of their children's textbooks, and their banning of clerical incitement are all steps in the right direction which came about as a result of our diplomatic pressure on them.

Instead, we can just exert a hell of a lot of diplomatic pressure, because they are already our partners to some degree.

I doubt if "diplomatic pressure" will work at all in the case of Saudi Arabia especially. The deal between US and SA is simple - we guarantee you undisrupted flow of oil at reasonable prices, and you be real nice to us and support our corrupt little family in brutally ruling this country. Both parties have been sticking to the plan, even after a band of Saudis killed thousands of Americans on 9/11.

Bingo! That's the real reason we are in Iraq. Our relationship with the Saudis looks a mite hypocritical and we really need another location for our ME air force base.
