"seize the assets of suspected drug dealers before they're ever convicted of a crime"

My neighbor bought an old house and converted into 3 rental units where the county paid 1/2 the rent for the poor tenants. One of the tenants was caught selling drugs in a tavern parking lot and because my neighbor had received drug money as part of the rent he lost the building and served 4 years in prison.

i thought this was approved as it takes years to get these drug dealers convicted. In the meantime they are still dealing drugs.

I have a major problem with seizing somebody's property when you haven't convicted them of anything. It is used to force people into making deals with the Government when they are innocent by threatening to bankrupt them and put their wife and kids on the street. It takes away their assets that they can use to pay a lawyer to protect themselves. It is just flat wrong.
