Why would anyone reference the AMA in this regard????

We were talking about what weapons doctors are taught to use to treat chronic conditions. I said that doctors were taught to treat primarily with drugs or surgery.

there are volumes written on non-drug treatments for each of these conditions....

Yes, I'm well aware of them. That said, I'd say 99% of the patients who complain of mild asthma will come out of their doctors office with an inhaler even though there is ample evidence that the drugs used treat asthma bring on more frequent and severe attacks when used over a period of time.

Type II is one of the most preventable conditions on the planet yet it is epidemic in some populations. I control my asthma without drugs. Acid reflux can be controlled without drugs (I know because I suffered from it in college, long before the purple pill) and a large number of arthritis patients can get far more relief from exercise and vitamin/mineral supplements than arthritis medication which simply masks the symptoms (runs in my family as well). Osteoporosis can largely be prevented with weight bearing exercise done over your lifetime in conjunction with proper diet. You go in complaining of any of these conditions you are coming out with a prescription. The answer to almost every question is a prescription in this country.

in each case the scientific evidence is unfortunately also relatively weak for their efficacy

So you agree that the primary weapons are drugs and the ones that doctors would be expected to use? Do you discount the value of using nutritional and lifestyle changes to deal with these conditions? Most people trained in the US do. Not so in some of those foreign countries where they have the higher metrics you mentioned in the earlier post.
