re: Now they all pretend that our primary goal was always to rescue those poor Iraqi people. That is probably the scariest thing about this...

You don't believe the Neo's are compassionate conservatives?

CJ, Or even secondarily. Tertiary, even. It was always "we need to topple Saddam because of the WMD".

I remember not buying the WMD argument before we invaded, simply because chasing after every a-hole in the world with WMD wouldn't have been pragmatic.

Instead, I supported it because we had the opportunity to make another example of what happens when America gets attacked. Saddam just happened to be on the top of the list of targets. It made sense from a humanitarian standpoint, and it also made sense given that Islamic fascism needed to die.

P.S. - I fully expect to get flamed from the bleeding hearts, so "Bring it on."

I can't think of any posts by anyone on SI giving the humanitarian reason as the primary reason for invading Iraq. Your right that in most cases the primary reason given was WMD. OTOH I do remember one or two posts before the invasion that focused on spreading democracy as a primary reason, and plenty of posts that had humanitarian and democratic reasons as secondary or tertiary reasons for the invasion.
