Mary, I don't think it's a question of whether or not it's true. It's a question of whether or not that is meaningful to people. LB's point was about the frame of reference, which, indeed, is typically a rich vs. poor one. That question matters to some people and not to others. To the people who don't care about the question, there's no point arguing that it is true. There might be some opportunity, instead, in arguing why it should matter.
