IMO, liberal & science go together. Conservative & religious go together. So I would expect liberals to admit mistakes and change course, but not conservatives. Maybe you should ask yourself how come, that religion was seriously suppressed in the communist block? I will help you out a little: It was because they only had space for one "religion", Communism!
