Can't say as I do, richardred. I've seen spotty reports that Apple is in collaboration with Motorola to produce an iPod cum cell phone, but nothing to hang your hat on about further design chains including PortalPlayer. Franlky, I'd find it surprising if it they weren't. Apple isn't going to stop with the iPod, and what better direction to take it that as a mobile communications device?

How fast is 3G to download music? It seems to me that the real sense of practical development is a model of downloading through the computer to the handheld device. At least at the onset.

Consider that the generation born of the 70's are embracing the concept of carrying their communications device with them at all times, despite the signal drop outs, marginal durability and higher than normal prices for service. Consider also that, with miniaturization of electronic components embracing everything in sight, display and keyboard size are becoming the lone constraining factors in turning the cell phone into the computer.

Apple's going to be there. PortalPlayer is all over it with their processor designs and have been working with Apple since the beginning of the iPod. I don't think they are just a flash in the pan. I'm not invested, though. Just interested.
